Champlain Commemorative
Stained Glass Window

Client: Ontario Heritage Foundation

In 1986 the Macdonald Stewart Foundation, Montreal, approached the Ontario Heritage Foundation through the Ministry of Culture and Communications Heritage Branch to produce a commemorative stained glass window to be a gift from the people of Ontario to the town of Brouages, France, the birthplace of Samuel de Champlain. The window was to be installed in its historic church to replace original gothic windows that had been damaged or destroyed over time.

The window was commissioned and manufactured in Ontario using templates from the Brouages church window, and on completion was exhibited in Toronto, Ontario at an unveiling reception ceremony complemented by a six panel display.  It was then transported to Brouages for installation and an unveiling ceremony.
